Control Departments

A large organization needs control departments to ensure that the systems in place are functioning and are being adhered to.

Control departments function to ensure that there are no transgressions of authority or of procedural requirements are taking place. By ensuring that, the company is able to rely on systems and checks and balances to protect itself rather than relying exclusively on trust. This means that organizations can truly become free to retain and promote individuals based more on capabilities and qualifications instead of integrity alone, which must, however, remain a major factor in employee selection.

The control departments of the different companies within the CGC group may consist of some, or all of the following departments:

Health, Safety and the Environment (HSE): SAFETY FIRST is not an empty slogan at CGC. It is a firm belief the company lives by. Perhaps the biggest proof is CGC Kuwait's Oil Sector business unit being honored for achieving 2 million injury free man-hours at the Joint Operations project. The HSE Department works tirelessly to ensure that CGC employees stay safe and healthy while going about the company's business and that the environment they work in is conducive to healthy work. They also ensure that the company operates in the most environmentally and ecologically friendly manner possible.

Internal Audit: Internal Audit checks for the soundness and correctness of all financial transactions within the organization and reports their findings and recommendations to the board of directors. Despite that, and contrary to popular belief, the members of the Internal Audit Department are not secret agents with a "double 0" license. In fact, many departments in the organization work very closely with the Internal Audit Department to ensure that nothing is falling through the cracks of the system. In this way, the various departments can achieve a symbiotic relationship, bettering their systems for the benefit of the company as a whole.

Quality Management: companies with quality management systems require a method to ensure compliance with the system, to educate its employees on the system as a whole aiming at instilling a culture of quality within the organization and to be a catalyst for improvement and development. These are precisely the three main functions of the Quality Management Department at CGC.
