Support: from advising users to plug in the power cord of their computer prior to giving up and calling support to troubleshooting complex problems, no company can go about its daily business without having an IT support function assisting its users in their day-to-day tasks.
Hardware & Maintenance: this function is concerned with managing hardware asset, approving hardware specifications for different categories of users and updating these specs to keep up with the requirements of modern software and the unrelenting hardware developments and managing warranty and out of warranty repairs, keeping the costs of the latter to a bare minimum by relying on internal resources.
Infrastructure Management: this function deals with ensuring that every user is a registered and authorized user on the network and that he/she has access to all the network resources that he/she requires to perform his job, no more and no less, with the highest availability standards, and that all this communication, be it LAN or WAN based, is taking place in the most secure environments possible. This function also deals with all server side maintenance and management.
Solutions and Development: this function handles software asset management, researches software solutions for business problems or bottlenecks, manages the deployment of new software on a project management basis, manages change and user training, and does, where possible and applicable, in-house development.
