When a new related segment is being explored and a project is awarded, it falls under the special projects category, pending the outcome of the project. If the newly explored field is deemed sustainable and worthwhile, it is either categorized under one of the existing business units as a subdivision or, in extremely rare cases; a new business unit is created.
In this way, the Special Projects Unit is the proving grounds for Combined Group Kuwait, where a new, related, business segment is explored and tested. In this way, also, many segments that started as special projects have become staple business for CGC.
